Sudhaaya Dance Foundation has provided a platform for meaningful interactions between artistes and scholars, enabling different perspectives to emerge. Seminars, lecture-demonstrations, and workshops are organized to give audiences an understanding of indigenous art forms. These events also aid in illuminating the connection that both folk and formal expressions of visual and performing arts have to the living culture of India.

Unmasking the tradition- Story of Seraikella Chhau

Seminar

A two day event to document different aspects of Seraikella Chhau was organized at The India International Centre, new Delhi. This brought together Gurus and practitioners from the traditional community as well as dancers and scholars for a meaningful dialogue. The history, evolution and content of the dance form was elucidated through lectures, demonstrations and power-point presentations.

The art of making masks that are an integral part of Chhau was demonstrated by senior mask makers. The entire event was documented by Sangeet Natak Akademi, an apex body for culture that functions under the Ministry Of Culture, Government of India, for their archival library onthe performing arts.

Ek- Anant…the unending One. A festival of Solos-

Seminar

The morning sessions of this two-day event were dedicated to lectures by eminent speakers. Shri Ashok Vajpeyi, Dr. Kiran Seth, Shri Subas Pani, Smt. Sujatha Vijayaraghavan, critics Smt. Leela Venkataraman and Dr. Sunil Kothari, and dancers Malavika Sarukkai and Aditi Mangaldas illuminated the subject from different perspectives.

There was also an informal debate by the participating dance community on the diminishing importance of the solo and the dire limiting of opportunities for practicing professionals. This event was a collaboration between Sudhaaya Dance Foundation and the India International Centre, New Delhi.

Dancers All… Dimensions beyond the performative

Event

An event that celebrated the works of three stalwarts closely associated with the field of Indian Dance. Dance critics and scholars Smt. Leela Venkataraman and Dr. Sunil Kothari and Shri. Avinash Pasricha known to be a pioneer of dance photography in India.

This interaction brought to the fore parallel streams that are connected to the world of dance and their importance in strengthening the culture of Indian dance in its tradition context. The event was a collaboration between Sudhaaya Dance Foundation, Interface Media and India International Centre.

Lecture Demonstration and Workshop for Probationers at The National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur

Nurturing Minds

A lecture-demonstration to introduce the dance forms of Odissi and Seraikella Chhau and the cultural contexts in which they exist was held for probationers in December 2017. This was followed by a seven day workshop on campus.
