Sudhaaya and Community

SUDHAAYA AND THE WORLD OF UNDERPRIVILIGED CHILDREN. LIGHTING WORLDS WITH THE BEAUTY OF ARTS IN TRADITION.

Sudhaaya Dance Foundation has conducted classes and workshops in schools providing education to children from underprivileged backgrounds. These workshops aim to more then just teaching the children how to dance. Rather, they aim to highlight the connections between our dance traditions to other aspects of the living culture, to the envirnment , to mythology and folklore, and of them being reflections of the universal nature of mankind . This imparts a truly
holistic education on the arts in India and helps in the transformation of these childrenin the way
it is intented. Giving them an enriched experience and confidence that can go a long way.

Fluid Stones A Heritage Project

Documenting the secular feminine in sculptural motifs found in ancient religious architecture of India Grantee: INTERGLOBE FOUNDATION, New Delhi

This particular project was a research and documentation of sculptural motifs depicting the feminine. This has been primarily inspired from the way the body is used to express attitudes and emotions of women, in Indian dance and sculptural traditions. The sculptures were chosen from the archeology sections of museums under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. These include The National Museum, New Delhi, The Allahabad Museum and the Indian Museum, Kolkata. A photo shoot was also done at the Government Museum in Mathura.

Outreach activities that were planned by Sudhaaya Dance Foundation to create public awareness and interest towards these sculptural motifs. Done in the Month of March 2020, around International Women’s day these activities, included performances on the theme at The Allahabad Museum. Prayagraj and Sunder Nursery, New Delhi. Informal interactions with visitors at The National Museum and other public spaces in Delhi NCR were done to highlight the idea of the feminine in Indian thought and its performing and visual art traditions.

The KHUSHIYON KA PITAARA Project

Support for COVID-19 awareness among underprivileged children through distribution of educational kits in Government schools in Delhi /NCR Grantee Organization: GAIL( INDIA) LIMITED

For this project Sudhaaya Dance Foundation collaborated with traditional artistes from indigenous communities and used the narrative power of art forms like Gond and Warli in the fight against covid. Khushiyon Ka Pitara is a child friendly kit that educates children on COVID 19 and other infectious diseases that are caused by viruses. This was put together to reinforce facts on the COVID pandemic. It was done on the premise that educating children from underprivileged backgrounds can help spread awareness amongst economically weaker and illiterate sections of society.

In the Kit, the story of Covid comes alive with Dushta Mukutasur aur uski haar, a book written in hindi. The characters in the book and the interaction between them becomes a delightful medium to educate, entertain and reinforce knowledge, on the simple science behind washing hands, wearing a mask and social distancing. The other components of the kit were a workbook based on the book and a board game that was inspired from the ancient Gyan-chaupar. It also included a hand painted pencil box with seed pencils, a specially crafted soap, and cotton mask.

In the experience of distributing a thousand kits to children in primary schools of New Delhi Municipal Corporation, it was encouraging to see that Khushiyon Ka Pitaara did indeed put a smile on the faces of children who had been robbed of the joy of going to school. The interaction with them also underlined for us the need to spread awareness on the simple scientific facts that can effectively aid in preventing the spread of virus infections.

The additional objectives of providing livelihood to traditional artiste communities and also to employ as paid volunteers, many persons from the economically weaker sections of society in the assembling of kits was also achieved through this project.
